1000 Steps Beach Outing

Jr Transfer Outing to 1000 Steps Beach

Some UCI A2F Juniors and Transfers having fun at Laguna beach.

Last Fall, the UCI Junior Transfers went on an outing to 1000 Steps Beach (named for the steep stairs that lead to the beach) in Laguna. As always, it was a beautiful day in sunny California and perfect weather for some outdoor activity. Once we found the perfect spot, we set up for an epic two frisbee game of ultimate frisbee, pitting NorCal against SoCal. After a few rounds we replaced the frisbees with eggplants, just to keep things interesting (eggplants are much more difficult to catch than you’d think!). And what trip to the beach would be complete without taking some aesthetic sunset pictures? As it turns out, getting the timing right on a group jumping picture is pretty difficult!

We then trekked back to our cars and found that the long and steep staircase we came down earlier was much more difficult to go up than down, especially several rounds of ultimate frisbee and eggplant. But we were motivated to press on because a free Mongolian BBQ dinner awaited the person who correctly guessed the number of steps (there are 220, but it definitely feels like 1000).

We then headed to Lake Forest for some all you can eat Mongolian BBQ, where some people learned for the first time the correct technique for getting the most bang for your buck - getting two bowls, loading up on the most expensive meat in one bowl, and stacking the other bowl filled with vegetables and noodles on top. Some of us struggled to get through even one plate, while others made it a competition to see who could eat the most.

The day was a perfect balance of strenuous exercise followed by immense food consumption!
