Passion Experience

Understanding what Jesus' death has to do with us

An interactive experience designed by our UCI students to understand Jesus's death.

The word passion comes from the Latin root passio meaning to suffer.  If you have ever watched part of The Passion of the Christ, you know the movie honestly and gut wrenchingly portrays Jesus’ sufferings in the events leading up to the cross.  When we talk about Passion Experience at Acts2Fellowship, we are referring not to a literal experience of Jesus’ sufferings, however, but rather a way for us to reflect on the sufferings of Jesus and ask the question, why?

Why did He suffer?

            Why did He die?

What does that have to do with me?

The scandal of Christianity is that it teaches Jesus, the Son of God, descended down to the earth and died.  Think about that for a minute, why would anyone who is divine die?  As we go through the Passion Experience, we grapple with this very question.  Why did Jesus die?  It is so easy to blame different characters in the story, the Romans, Judas… the list goes on and on. Have you ever thought about your role though?  The Passion Experience invites us to see how we, like the biblical figure Jacob, have wrestled with God our entire lives and in each of the characters that put Jesus on the cross, we can see ourselves.  The Passion Experience is an immersive, online walkthrough of the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion that lead you through reflections.  As a Christian fellowship at UCI, we seek to engage UCI students and explore how the Bible is relevant to our lives, but the Passion Experience is an engaging experience for people of all backgrounds, not just college students.
